January 2011
Much has happened since I last wrote including our annual Charity fund raiser in October when Richard and Helen Apperley became question masters for our Quiz and Supper Evening with proceeds in aid of Hope House Childrens’ Hospice.
The All Britain at Stoneleigh saw our HYB team perform extremely well with some great successes for our young, up and coming team lead by Sue Cope.
November got of to a great start with Sarah Liddle giving us a splendid presentation talking about her farming life, and features for HUK, plus her business venture with her Company “The Farm Organisation”.
In December, as with the rest of the Country, we struggled with the cold weather, resulting in a reluctant decision to cancel our speaker, The Honourable Chris Norton, as travelling conditions were horrendous. However, we did continue with the AGM as it was impossible to contact the whole membership at the 11th hour to cancel this very important meeting. 33 hardy souls ventured out to see Mr John Eardley take over as Chairman from Mr John Lomax who has done a sterling job over the last two years.
Again the weather beat us for our Childrens’ party which was rearranged in the New Year when a room full of excited children were entertained with games and food with Uncle David Hiles and his many helpers ensuring a good time was had by all.
Stuart Roberts from SFR Farming joined us on the 17th January and talked to an enthralled gathering of 52 members about his farming business with the Townhouse Herd as well as other developments involving diversification and also his involvement as a farmer representative on the Wiseman Board answering many questions from the floor. A hugely successful evening.
Friday 21st January saw 220 members and guests attend our annual Dinner Dance, incorporating presentations of our Herds Competition trophies.
We were particularly pleased to have our HUK President Mr Bernard Liddle who gave a speech, and his wife Mrs Marnie Liddle very kindly presented the Trophies, along with our Judge Mr Brian Davidson from the Errolston herd who gave a very amusing speech as well.
The Club awarded an extra prize this year wishing to mark the outstanding achievement of Izzy Whittaker with her success at Cremona becoming The European Champion.
Results of the 2010 Herds competition can be seen on our website www.shropshireholsteinclub.co.uk as well as on the member’s site at HUK
