July 2010 News

16-08-2010

It’s almost mid July and with the  ground as dry as bone we need rain. How often have we been able to say that over the last few summers we haven’t had.

I promised you news of the now famous Ternbridge Rosalind cow bred by stalwart Shropshire club members Tim and Brenda Preston and now in the  very capable hands of another famous Shropshire member, Ed Seaton and family at the Styche.

I saw her before she went to the Cheshire show and like everyone else who had this pleasure knew she would take some beating.

So no surprise to learn that she swept all before her at the Cheshire show. This beautiful black daughter by the famous Roylane Jordan won many admiring comments by all who saw her and credit to Ed and his team who brought her out in such fine form.

The new Shropshire County show made a valiant effort to resurrect the show after the demise of the original Shropshire and West Mid show which folded earlier in the year.

The 26th and 27 June was the date and the Holstein classes saw Rob Clare and Mike Roberts fight a good clean battle sharing the honours with Mike from Nobold Holsteins taking the eventual championship.

The fist week in July saw Brian Davidson from the Errolston herd visit our club and spent 3 full days judging our annual herds competition. The only further comment at this stage is that Brian said that this was  the strongest competition he had ever witnessed and left with a heightened awareness of the quality of cattle in Shropshire.

Newport show has had a great reputation for putting on a fantastic one day event with events catering for everyone young and old , farming and public alike.

Everyone who has attended this event is spellbound by the layout with the main show ground in a natural amphitheatre and adjoining a lake to make this site so spectacular.

Record attendances on the 10th July saw some outstanding cattle both beef and dairy as well as record entries in all livestock classes.

This day was to be one of the best for W Maddocks Farms at Chadwell Grange.

Ben Yates, herd manager for David Maddocks, brought out a very strong team which included another big black Roylane Jordan daughter.

This time it was Wyndford Jordan Contended 384 who swept the board culminating in the interbreed championship.

One day perhaps we may see these two fantastic Roy dtrs fight it out in the same ring together.

It is with great regret that I also have to tell the reader that Brian and Leonora Whitfield from the Alderbarrow herd have lost a daughter namely Leonora Ann Whitfield who passed away, aged just 41 on the 4th July 2010.

All club members and friends send condolances and best wishes to all the family. A large congregation attended the funeral at Shrewsbury Crematorium on the 12th July 2010.

At this time I awaiting news from our HYB section who attended the judging and linear day at Shaneal on the 10th. So news on that to follow.
